Apple fans anticipating the iPhone 18 may have to wait longer than expected. According to the latest reports, the base model of the iPhone 18 is unlikely to launch in 2026. However, the iPhone 18 Pro models could still be unveiled next year, along with Apple’s first foldable iPhone.
Two-Phase Launch Expected
Apple is reportedly planning a two-phase launch for the iPhone 18 series, marking a departure from its usual release schedule. The iPhone 18 Pro models are expected to arrive in September 2026, possibly alongside the foldable iPhone. Meanwhile, the base iPhone 18 may only be launched in early 2027.
Production Delays Behind the Shift
Insider reports suggest that trial production for the iPhone 18 has not yet started and is expected to commence after the Chinese New Year in late February 2026. Factories in China typically resume normal operations following the holiday, taking on large-scale projects, including new iPhone models.
These developments reinforce earlier rumors that the iPhone 18 base model may only see the light of day in 2027. Apple has not officially confirmed these reports. Additionally, sources indicate that alongside the iPhone 18, Apple may also launch the iPhone 18e and the next-generation iPhone Air.
iPhone 18 Pro Production Already in Motion
According to another industry insider, production lines for the iPhone 18 Pro models are already set up, suggesting that the hardware design is finalized. However, the Pro models are expected to feature minimal hardware changes compared to previous models. This is why the iPhone 18 Pro is still likely to launch in September 2026, while the base iPhone 18 may follow in 2027.
