Apple’s iPhone 16 has emerged as the most popular smartphone in India, reflecting the growing dominance of the Cupertino-based tech giant in one of the world’s fastest-growing mobile markets.
According to a latest report by Counterpoint Research, Apple sold approximately 6.5 million units of the iPhone 16 in India during the first 11 months of 2025, making it the country’s top-selling smartphone for the year.
iPhone Strengthens Grip on Indian Market
The report highlights a significant shift in consumer preferences, as Indian buyers—traditionally inclined toward affordable and mid-range Android devices—are increasingly opting for premium smartphones, particularly iPhones.
The iPhone 16 recorded the highest shipment volumes across both metro cities and smaller towns, underlining its widespread appeal. It also retained the top position for three consecutive quarters, driven by strong festive-season sales and attractive offers during major e-commerce events such as Flipkart’s Big Billion Days.
iPhone 15 Also Among Top Five Bestsellers
In addition to the iPhone 16, Apple’s iPhone 15, launched in 2023, also featured among the top five best-selling smartphones in India in 2025. This indicates sustained demand for Apple’s older-generation models, even after the launch of the newer iPhone 17 series.
Industry analysts note that competitive pricing during sales, combined with brand loyalty and ecosystem advantages, has helped Apple maintain momentum across multiple product generations.
Record-Breaking Revenue for Apple in India
Apple also achieved its highest-ever revenue in India, reinforcing the country’s growing importance in the company’s global strategy. Globally, Apple reported an 8 percent increase in revenue, reaching $102.5 billion, fueled largely by strong demand for the iPhone 17 lineup and continued popularity of the iPhone 16 series.
Rising Challenge for Chinese Smartphone Brands
Apple’s expanding footprint in India is posing a growing challenge for Chinese smartphone manufacturers, who have long dominated the market. With rising consumer aspiration for premium devices, analysts expect Apple’s market share and brand influence in India to grow further in the coming years.
