India’s Sarvam AI Launches Bulbul V3, Taking on Gemini and ChatGPT with a Desi Twist

Bengaluru, February 9, 2026: Bengaluru-based AI startup Sarvam has unveiled its latest AI voice model, Bulbul V3, positioning it as a strong competitor to global AI chatbots like Gemini and ChatGPT. The standout feature of Bulbul V3 is its ability to understand and speak in 11 Indian languages, capturing the nuances, accents, and conversational style unique to India. Plans are already underway to expand support to all 22 official Indian languages.

Bulbul V3: A Master of Indian Languages
Unlike many AI systems that operate primarily in English, Bulbul V3 excels at conversing naturally in Indian languages, including regional dialects and code-mixed sentences—commonly seen when Hindi, English, and other languages are blended in daily conversation. The AI model can deliver fluid, emotion-aware speech, paying attention to pauses, tone, and the correct pronunciation of local names and terms.

In a recent study, Bulbul V3 even outperformed larger AI models like Cartesia Sonic-3, emerging as the world’s top model in telephony (8 kHz) evaluation. Its 35+ high-quality voices were crafted with the help of Indian voice artists, ensuring authentic Indian intonation and expression.

From User to Creator: India’s AI Milestone
Bulbul V3 represents more than just a technological achievement—it signals India’s growing capability as a creator of AI, not just a consumer. Sarvam AI is among the select institutions chosen under the ₹10,300 crore India AI Mission to develop indigenous AI models. Bulbul V3 will also feature at the India AI Impact Summit 2026, and developers can access it for free until February 28, 2026. Advanced features, including voice cloning, are included in this Made-in-India AI solution.

With Bulbul V3, India is not only keeping pace with global AI development but also showcasing its unique linguistic and cultural diversity on the technological stage.
