New Delhi/Bengaluru: While Galgotias University faced controversy for claiming a Chinese robot dog as its own, Bengaluru-based startup General Autonomy introduced India’s first homegrown robot dog, PARAM, at the India AI Impact Summit 2026, winning admiration for its fully indigenous design.
Unlike imported robots assembled locally, PARAM was entirely designed and built by Indian engineers from scratch. The startup emphasized this in a social media post: “Enough nonsense! Presenting PARAM: India’s most powerful indigenous robot dog. Not assembled, not bought—built in India, by Indians. For our country, our century, our world.”
Features That Stand Out
PARAM is a four-legged autonomous robot capable of navigating complex environments. Demonstration videos shared by the company show it moving effortlessly through Bengaluru traffic, interacting with a street dog, and climbing stairs up to 30 cm high. It can also crawl in low spaces in a crab-like motion, sense obstacles, support autonomous navigation, and automatically stand up if it falls.
The robot has also been showcased to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, highlighting its mobility and sensing capabilities. General Autonomy has been developing PARAM for the past seven months, improving its performance every two weeks.
When Will PARAM Be Available?
While the company has not yet announced a market release date, the progress suggests that India’s indigenous robot dog could soon be deployed for practical applications, offering assistance in various real-world scenarios.
Bottom line: PARAM marks a major milestone in Indian robotics innovation, proving that India can develop advanced AI-powered machines entirely on its own.
