
Quick-commerce platform Instamart has revealed fascinating insights into Indian shopping behavior throughout 2025, showing how digital grocery apps have become a part of everyday life. The data highlights spending trends, quirky purchases, and surprising tips across major cities.
Chennai Spends Big on Condoms, Noida on Protein
According to Instamart’s annual report, a Chennai-based user spent ₹1,06,398 solely on condoms, placing 228 separate orders over the year—an average of 19 orders per month. In Noida, a user spent over ₹2 lakh on protein products, ordering a total of 1,343 items, showing the rising trend of health-conscious shopping.
Mumbai and Bengaluru Go All Out on Luxury and Tips
In Mumbai, a user spent more than ₹15 lakh on gold, while another spent ₹16.3 lakh on sugar-free Red Bull. Bengaluru emerged as the city most generous to delivery partners, with one user tipping ₹68,600, followed by Chennai at ₹59,505.
Other notable big-ticket purchases include:
- Noida user spending ₹2.69 lakh on electronics, including a Bluetooth speaker, SSD, and robotic vacuum cleaner.
- Hyderabad user buying three iPhone 17 devices at ₹4.3 lakh.
- Bengaluru orders of ₹4.36 lakh on noodles, indicating bulk shopping for essentials.
From Tiny Orders to Extravagant Gifts
Not all orders were massive—Bengaluru saw the smallest order of just ₹10, a simple printout. Popular occasions for online gifting included Valentine’s Day, Raksha Bandhan, and Friendship Day, with 666 rose orders per minute recorded on Valentine’s Day alone. Hyderabad users spent over ₹31,000 on roses, while gold shopping in Mumbai touched ₹15.16 lakh.

The report demonstrates that quick-delivery apps like Instamart, Blinkit, and Zepto have become integral to daily life in India, reflecting both convenience and evolving consumer habits. From essentials to luxury items, Indians are embracing online shopping with enthusiasm, reshaping the retail landscape in the process.
