Google Introduces New Tool to Remove Private Photos from the Internet Following India’s Updated IT Rules

New Delhi – In the wake of India’s stricter IT rules targeting AI-generated content and deepfakes, Google has launched a new tool to help users protect their online privacy. The tool allows individuals to directly report and remove private, sensitive, or objectionable photos and information from Google Search. The process is designed to be simple, fast, and user-friendly.

Enhanced Privacy Amid New IT Rules
The Indian government recently introduced stringent IT regulations requiring platforms to label AI-generated content and remove harmful material promptly. Google’s new initiative aligns with these rules, giving users greater control over which personal information appears online. According to Google, the updated search system is aimed at helping individuals affected by sensitive content leaks, offering both emotional and legal support through expert organizations linked to the tool.

Simplified Removal Process
Google’s blog post details a streamlined removal process. Users can report explicit or intimate images directly from the search results page. The tool allows reporting multiple images simultaneously, eliminating the need to submit separate requests for each image. Users simply select the “Remove result” option from the three-dot menu in the search results and indicate the reason for removal, including explicit or sexual content.

Safety and Safeguards
In addition to content removal, the tool offers a safeguards option. This feature automatically filters related search results, preventing similar sensitive content from appearing in search results. Users are notified of updates to their requests via email, and they can track the status of all removal requests from the “Results about you” hub within Google Search.

Global Rollout Planned
Google plans to roll out this feature to more countries in the coming months, reinforcing user privacy and online safety worldwide. By combining ease of reporting, safeguards, and expert support, the tool aims to empower users to take control of their digital footprint and reduce the spread of sensitive content online.

How to Use the Tool

  1. Click the three-dot icon at the top-right of a Google search result.
  2. Select “Remove result” from the menu.
  3. Choose the reason for removal (e.g., explicit or intimate content).
  4. Submit the request, track status in “Results about you”, and receive email notifications for updates.
