Elon Musk’s AI company xAI is working on a revolutionary project that could transform office environments forever. A recent viral podcast by former xAI engineer Suleman Ghori revealed that the company is developing the “Human Emulator”—an AI system capable of performing office tasks just like a human employee.
Unlike traditional chatbots, these digital humans can operate a keyboard and mouse, open files, write emails, and use any software with human-like dexterity. Ghori described the system as so realistic that even xAI employees often cannot tell the AI apart from real coworkers. In some cases, managers assigned tasks to these AI agents without realizing they were not human. Following the podcast, Ghori announced his departure from xAI.
AI as Full-Fledged Team Members
These AI employees are designed to function across standard office applications without requiring specialized setups. They can handle documents, manage data, draft emails, and perform virtually all tasks that a human employee would. Some AI agents are even listed in the company’s internal duty charts, making them part of official teams. This has led to situations where colleagues ask why a certain “employee” is not online, unaware it is actually an AI.
Rivaling Microsoft Office
Under Musk’s direction, xAI aims to create an AI system capable of rivaling Microsoft Office tools like Word, Excel, and Outlook. Humorously nicknamed “Macrohard”, the project envisions a future where AI performs most office tasks, from reporting and data management to software development. Musk believes that in the near future, AI will no longer be mere assistants but key contributors in workplaces.
Leveraging Tesla Cars for Computing Power
Running such an advanced AI system requires immense computing power, traditionally provided by large servers and high electricity usage. Ghori revealed that xAI is considering utilizing the powerful onboard computer chips in Tesla cars for AI operations. Millions of Tesla vehicles sit idle for hours each day, and xAI plans to tap into their computing power when the cars are not in use. Car owners would receive compensation for contributing their idle computing resources, effectively creating a shared AI computing network.
With this project, xAI could fundamentally redefine the future of office work, turning AI from assistant tools into full-fledged digital colleagues.
