The Delhi Traffic Police is planning a major upgrade to its traffic management system with the introduction of an AI-powered Integrated Traffic Management System (ITMS). The proposed system aims to reduce manual work, improve traffic flow, and enforce traffic rules more efficiently.
Smart Technology for Traffic Enforcement
The AI-based ITMS will feature smart traffic lights, Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras, and automated fines. Vehicles violating traffic rules will be quickly identified by the system, allowing fines to be issued automatically, reducing reliance on manual checks.
According to officials, the system will also use real-time traffic analytics to regulate traffic flow more efficiently. The objective is to create a future-ready, scalable, and technology-driven traffic ecosystem that improves compliance and overall traffic management.
Benefits for Commuters
Once implemented, the system is expected to provide commuters with real-time traffic updates, helping them plan their journeys better. Officials believe this could reduce travel time, save fuel, and lower vehicle emissions.
The ITMS represents a significant step toward digitally transforming traffic management in Delhi, leveraging AI, advanced analytics, and real-time monitoring. However, the exact implementation date for the system has not yet been announced.
