China is racing ahead in the 6G technology race, having successfully completed the first phase of 6G trials and already initiating the second phase. The country aims to revolutionize its information and communication technology (ICT) infrastructure, positioning itself as a global leader in next-generation networks.
6G Trials and Progress
China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) confirmed that over 300 critical technologies were tested in the first trial phase. Following its success, the second phase of trials has begun, signaling China’s continued commitment to advance its ICT capabilities and prepare for the future 6G rollout.
Current 5G Strength
Highlighting China’s telecom dominance, Xie Cun, head of the Ministry’s Information and Communications Development Department, revealed at a Beijing press conference:
- 4.838 million 5G base stations installed
- Over 1.2 billion 5G users
- 42% of global standard-essential patents for 5G filed by China
China has built the world’s largest and most advanced information infrastructure, laying a solid foundation for future 6G deployment.
The Road Ahead
The Ministry plans to accelerate 6G research and development, focusing on an application-based industry ecosystem to support practical use cases. While India and the United States are also pushing forward with 6G development, China appears poised to lead the global rollout. Analysts predict that 6G networks could become widely available to users by 2030.
With these advancements, China is setting the pace in the next-generation connectivity race, potentially leaving other major players like the U.S. and India behind.
