OpenAI has launched a new tool, ChatGPT Translate, which supports translation in over 50 languages, including major Indian languages such as Hindi, Marathi, Punjabi, Gujarati, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu. The standout feature of this tool is that it allows users to customize translations according to their specific needs. For example, an article can be translated in a formal business style or simplified for children, depending on the requirement.
Familiar Interface Like Google Translate
The interface of ChatGPT Translate is similar to Google Translate, featuring two boxes: one for entering content and another for selecting the target language. Although ChatGPT previously offered translation features, this tool has now been launched as a dedicated product, accessible on both web and mobile platforms. During testing, the tool worked smoothly on web browsers. OpenAI has not disclosed detailed technical specifications or the underlying model used for this tool.
Support for Indian Languages
ChatGPT Translate currently supports several major Indian languages, making it useful for a wide audience across the country. Users can translate text in Hindi, Marathi, Punjabi, Gujarati, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu, and other widely spoken Indian languages.
ChatGPT Translate vs Google Translate
One of the key advantages of ChatGPT Translate over Google Translate is its customizable translation feature. Users can instruct the AI to adjust the tone, style, or level of complexity in the translation. While Google Translate produces a fixed translation that cannot be altered, ChatGPT Translate allows you to modify the output to suit your context, whether formal, casual, or simplified.
Additionally, ChatGPT Translate aims to support text, image, and voice translation, although image translation is not fully functional at the time of writing. This feature is expected to roll out in the coming days. The focus of ChatGPT Translate is to go beyond literal translation and make content easier to understand and conversational, offering a more adaptive translation experience.
