Hyundai, the renowned automobile manufacturer, is making its mark in robotics. The company is set to showcase its first AI-powered humanoid robot, ‘Atlas’, at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2026 in Las Vegas on January 5. Designed primarily for industrial applications, this robot could potentially transform factory operations.
What to Expect at CES 2026
According to reports from The Economic Times, Hyundai will present its advanced AI robotics strategy at CES 2026, demonstrating how humans and robots can collaborate efficiently. The highlight of the showcase will be the Atlas humanoid robot, developed in partnership with Boston Dynamics. Attendees can witness live demonstrations of the robot in action, offering a glimpse into the future of industrial automation.
The entry of automotive companies into robotics signals a potential shift in workforce dynamics, with robots increasingly assisting or even replacing humans in repetitive factory tasks.
Capabilities of Hyundai’s AI Robot
Hyundai describes Atlas as the flagship example of its AI robotics technology. The robot is capable of operating in real-world industrial environments, performing tasks at speeds surpassing human workers. Hyundai plans to integrate Atlas into software-driven factories, streamlining car production and improving overall operational efficiency.
Hyundai’s Battery Research Initiative
In addition to robotics, Hyundai is investing heavily in battery technology. The company is building the Future Mobility Battery Campus in Anseong, South Korea, about 70 kilometers from Seoul. With an investment of 1.2 trillion won (~$818 million), the 111,000-square-meter facility will focus on battery research and development.
The campus will develop next-generation battery cell designs, processes, and control systems, enhancing the performance of electric vehicles and supporting the growing robotics sector. Construction began in January 2025 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
With the Atlas robot and the Future Mobility Battery Campus, Hyundai is positioning itself at the forefront of AI-driven automation and sustainable mobility, shaping the future of both factories and electric vehicles.
