Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is set to roll out its 5G services soon, with a soft launch planned in Delhi within the next six months. The announcement was made by BSNL Chairman and Managing Director Robert Ravi during the India AI Impact Summit 2026. This launch marks the next phase of BSNL’s network evolution, building on the company’s existing 4G infrastructure.
Delhi to Lead the 5G Rollout
For subscribers eagerly awaiting BSNL’s 5G, the wait is almost over. Reports indicate that the soft launch of BSNL 5G will begin in the national capital. Robert Ravi confirmed that the company is fully prepared to bring high-speed 5G connectivity to urban areas, leveraging its upgraded 4G network as a foundation.
Competing with Private Operators
BSNL’s 5G rollout is also part of a broader strategy to strengthen its position against private telecom operators like Jio and Airtel. The company is expanding Edge AI capabilities via BharatNet, aiming to deliver high-speed internet and improved connectivity not only in cities but also in rural areas.
Improved Network Quality and Fewer Call Drops
BSNL has been focusing on network quality under the directives of the Telecom Ministry. Teams have been deployed across all service circles to monitor network performance and reduce call drop rates. The recently launched VoWiFi service has already improved call quality in areas with weak signals, particularly indoors.
Advanced AI-Driven Network Monitoring
BSNL is leveraging AI-based network monitoring to identify and resolve network issues in real time, ensuring users receive uninterrupted services. Robert Ravi stated that BSNL has reached a level where the performance gap with private operators is narrowing, positioning the company as a competitive alternative in the telecom space.
With the upcoming 5G rollout, Delhi residents can expect faster, more reliable connectivity, while BSNL continues to strengthen its nationwide infrastructure to meet future demands.
