According to the latest data released by Counterpoint Research, Apple emerged as the world’s largest smartphone brand by shipments in 2025, securing the top position with a 20% global market share. Strong demand for the iPhone 17 series played a key role in helping the tech giant overtake its rivals.

The report highlights that Apple’s smartphone shipments grew by 2% year-on-year compared to 2024. Samsung Gains Ground, Xiaomi Slips

Samsung secured the second position with a 19% market share in 2025, improving from 18% in 2024. The South Korean company benefited from strong sales of its Galaxy A series, which continued to perform well in the mid-range smartphone segment.

In contrast, Xiaomi witnessed a marginal decline. The Chinese brand held a 13% market share in 2025, down from 14% the previous year. Vivo and Oppo maintained their positions, with no significant change in their market shares compared to 2024.

Why Apple Took the Lead

Commenting on Apple’s performance, Counterpoint Research Senior Analyst Varun Mishra said that the company saw strong demand across emerging as well as mid-sized markets throughout 2025. The October–December quarter, driven by the popularity of the iPhone 17 series, proved especially crucial.

Additionally, the iPhone 16 series continued to perform well in key regions such as Japan, India, and several Southeast Asian countries, further strengthening Apple’s global leadership.

Where Samsung Benefited

The report notes that Samsung received a positive response for its Galaxy A series, particularly in the mid-range category. While the company faced slower growth in parts of South America and Western Europe, it retained a strong foothold in core markets such as Japan and other key regions.

Overall, the global smartphone market in 2025 remained competitive, but Apple’s consistent demand across regions and successful product launches helped it claim the number-one position in worldwide smartphone shipments.
