New Delhi: Apple’s first foldable iPhone has once again sparked widespread attention as leaks regarding its price, design, and features continue to emerge. According to industry analysts, the premium foldable device could be priced at approximately $2,399 (around ₹2.16 lakh) for the top-end model, making it significantly more expensive than current competitors like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 and the Huawei Mate X6.
Price Higher Than Existing Foldables
For comparison, Samsung launched the Galaxy Z Fold 7 in Indonesia at around $2,019 (₹1.7 lakh) for the 16GB RAM and 1TB storage variant, while the Huawei Mate X6 is priced at roughly $850 (₹70,000). Apple’s higher pricing is attributed to the use of high-quality components, including premium display panels and advanced hinge mechanisms, which enhance both the durability and user experience of the device.
Design and Engineering Details
Sources indicate that the foldable iPhone’s design will be similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold series, featuring a book-style folding mechanism. The prototype is reportedly at the Engineering Validation Test (EVT) stage, a critical milestone before mass production. Apple is also reportedly addressing battery life challenges, as foldable devices typically consume more power due to dual screens.
Market Forecast
According to Fubon Research analyst Arthur Liao, Apple is expected to sell around 5.4 million units of the foldable iPhone in 2026. The company has reportedly made significant progress in component preparation and prototype assembly over the past few months, signaling that the device may soon be ready for commercial launch.
Premium Positioning
Despite its high price, Apple’s first foldable iPhone is likely to attract buyers due to strong brand loyalty and the demand for innovative premium devices. Analysts note that while the cost may pose a barrier compared to Samsung and Huawei foldables, the Apple ecosystem and superior hardware are expected to justify the premium for prospective buyers.
