AI Solving Problems for One in Six People Globally; India Emerging as a Key User

India is rapidly embracing artificial intelligence (AI), with statistics showing that 86% of Indian companies are already using AI, while 14% of the population actively uses AI-enabled devices. The India AI Impact Summit 2026 has commenced in New Delhi, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressing keen enthusiasm for the event.

AI Adoption in India

Artificial intelligence is no longer a futuristic concept—it has firmly established itself worldwide, addressing problems for one in every six people globally. India’s adoption of AI is especially noteworthy, with the country playing a leading role in the growing global AI ecosystem.

The global AI market has reached $288.8 billion, with the United States investing $109.08 billion and China preparing to invest $9.29 billion. India’s contribution to the market stands at $1.16 billion, with Microsoft holding a 39% market share. The India AI Mission itself is backed by an investment of ₹10,371.92 crore.

India’s Growing AI Footprint

  • 16%: Share of global Gen-AI downloads from India
  • 86%: Indian companies using AI
  • 14%: Indian population using AI-enabled devices

The summit has drawn representatives from 500 companies, with over 35,000 participants registered. Leaders from 20 countries, more than 50 ministers, and over 40 CEOs from global and Indian companies are attending. India aims to mobilize $100 billion in investment through initiatives like these.

From Users to Makers

India’s AI journey is moving beyond mere usage toward creating and innovating. With Gen-AI apps seeing billions of downloads and widespread adoption in enterprises, India is becoming a hub for AI development and application.

Prime Minister Modi’s Vision

Prime Minister Modi has highlighted the summit’s significance on social media, stating:
“Bringing the world together to discuss AI! From today, India is hosting the AI Impact Summit at Bharat Mandapam, Delhi. I warmly welcome global leaders, industry captains, innovators, policymakers, researchers, and AI enthusiasts to this event. AI is transforming sectors including health, education, agriculture, governance, and enterprise. This summit will facilitate global discussions on innovation, collaboration, and responsible AI use. I am confident that the outcomes will help shape a progressive, innovative, and opportunity-driven future.”

The India AI Impact Summit 2026 is thus positioned as a pivotal platform for developing AI strategies that benefit both industry and society, with India emerging as a global leader in AI adoption and innovation.
