Aadhaar App Update: How to Hide Your Full Aadhaar Number Using the New App

While sharing your Aadhaar card for verification, it is not always necessary to reveal your full Aadhaar number. The new UIDAI Aadhaar app now offers a Masked Aadhaar feature, allowing users to share their Aadhaar securely without exposing the complete number. This feature can be accessed directly from the app’s home page.

What Is a Masked Aadhaar?
A Masked Aadhaar is a version of your Aadhaar card where your unique 12-digit Aadhaar number is partially hidden, showing only the last four digits. UIDAI recommends using a masked Aadhaar whenever full disclosure is not required, helping users safeguard sensitive information.

When to Use Masked Aadhaar
A Masked Aadhaar can be used in situations like:

  • Hotel check-ins
  • Airport or railway verification
  • Private jobs and offices
  • SIM card or telecom services

However, for activities such as opening a bank account, accessing government schemes, filing income tax or PAN applications, or applying for loans, the full Aadhaar number is still required.

How to Download and Share Masked Aadhaar

  1. Open the new UIDAI Aadhaar app.
  2. Click on ‘Download Aadhaar’ from the home page.
  3. Select ‘Masked Aadhaar’ instead of ‘Regular Aadhaar’.
  4. Download the PDF, which will display only the last four digits of your Aadhaar number.
  5. The PDF can be shared via WhatsApp, email, or other channels.

Opening the Masked Aadhaar File
The downloaded file is password-protected. To open it, enter the first four letters of your name in capital letters followed by your birth year.
For example, if your name is Ramesh and your birth year is 1992, the password will be RAME1992.

This update provides a safer and more convenient way to verify your identity while keeping your sensitive Aadhaar information secure.
