The budget smartphone segment often comes with a trade-off: you may get a weaker camera, average display, or just acceptable performance. Xiaomi’s Redmi 15C 5G, priced at ₹12,499, claims to challenge this norm. With 5G connectivity, a massive battery, and a range of features, the specifications look promising on paper. But does it truly deliver in everyday use?
After using the Redmi 15C as my primary smartphone for two weeks, testing everything from social media scrolling to content consumption, light gaming, and camera performance, here’s my verdict.
Unboxing and In-Hand Feel
Like most Chinese smartphones, the Redmi 15C offers a satisfying unboxing experience. The package includes the phone, a 33W charger, Type-A to Type-C cable, and a transparent TPU case. Although the phone has a plastic frame and back, it feels decent in hand. Features include a headphone jack and a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, which works reliably.
Display
The Redmi 15C comes with a 6.9-inch IPS LCD display supporting 120Hz refresh rate and protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. While the U-shaped notch and large bezels give it a slightly outdated look, the display performs well in daily use, delivering satisfactory color accuracy, brightness, and smoothness. The single speaker gets loud enough with volume boost mode, and YouTube videos can be watched at 1440p60 FPS.
Performance
Powered by the Mediatek Dimensity 6300 chipset with LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 2.2 storage, the Redmi 15C handles everyday tasks without hassle. It rarely hangs while running apps, browsing content, or watching videos. On initial boot, minor lag was observed, but it quickly stabilized into smooth performance. The phone runs Android 15-based HyperOS 2, offering plenty of features including Gemini Live and Circle To Search.
Camera Performance
The phone sports a dual rear camera setup: a 50MP primary sensor and a 2MP depth sensor. In good lighting, it captures decent photos with balanced dynamic range. However, low-light performance is underwhelming, and portrait shots are average at best. The 8MP selfie camera delivers passable results but lacks fine details. Overall, the camera is adequate for casual photography but not ideal for photography enthusiasts.
Battery Life
The 6000mAh battery delivers solid performance, offering around 7 hours of screen-on time and a full day of usage for normal users. The 33W charger refills 50% in 28 minutes and a full charge in just over an hour, making it convenient for heavy users.
Verdict
The Redmi 15C is a good option for Xiaomi fans looking for HyperOS 2 experience and a large battery at a budget price. However, if the camera is a priority, consider spending a bit more for better options. Overall, I would rate the Redmi 15C at 3.5 out of 5 stars.
