Bangalore, India: Nothing, the tech startup known for its fan-driven innovations, has unveiled the Nothing Phone (3a) Community Edition, a smartphone designed with direct input from its global community. The limited edition device will see only 1,000 units worldwide, with Indian fans getting a chance to purchase it at an offline event on 13 December in Bangalore.
A Smartphone by the People, for the People
Nothing has been releasing community editions for several years, and the latest 3a Community Edition continues this tradition. The phone’s design and features were shaped by 700 applicants and hundreds of creators over nine months, with four finalists contributing directly in London. The device is being called a true “people’s smartphone,” reflecting the preferences and creativity of the Nothing community.
What Makes the Community Edition Special?
The hardware design, crafted by Emre Kayganacl, draws inspiration from 1990s and early 2000s technology, giving the phone a distinctive retro-modern aesthetic. On the software side, Jad Zock customized the interface, offering lock screen clocks, four unique wallpapers, and other personalized touches that set the Community Edition apart from the standard Phone (3a).
