Never Miss an Important Call Again: Google Rolls Out ‘Expressive Calling’ to Bypass DND

Google has introduced a new Expressive Calling feature for its Phone app, currently rolling out to beta users. This innovative feature allows users to mark any call as ‘urgent’, ensuring it gets noticed even when Do Not Disturb (DND) mode is enabled.

Designed with visual cues and haptic feedback, Expressive Calling makes important calls more noticeable, alerting users with enhanced attention-grabbing signals. To activate the feature, users can navigate to their Phone app settings, enable Expressive Calling, and select the numbers they want to mark as urgent.

Once activated, urgent calls display a clear “This is urgent!” message on the receiver’s screen along with an animated siren emoji. Missed urgent calls are automatically flagged in the call history, making it easy to identify and prioritize important contacts. Users can also toggle whether urgent calls should bypass DND mode.

It’s important to note that both the caller and receiver must use the Google Phone app beta version 2023 for the feature to work. Callers get a prompt asking if they want to mark the call as urgent, ensuring proper use of the feature.

Additional Google Updates
Alongside Expressive Calling, Google has also updated the Gemini app with Gemini 3 Deep Think, an advanced reasoning mode for Google AI Ultra plan subscribers. This tool is designed to tackle complex tasks, including mathematics, science, and logical reasoning, offering users enhanced AI-driven problem-solving capabilities.
