Dating App Fraud Alert: Bengaluru Man Loses ₹1.29 Crore in Online Scam

Bengaluru: Online frauds through dating apps are on the rise, and a recent incident from Bengaluru highlights the risks. A 42-year-old man, Jagdish C., was duped of ₹1.29 crore after being lured by a woman he met on the dating app Quack Quack.

How the Scam Unfolded
According to reports, Jagdish established a friendship with a woman named Meghna Reddy on the app. She gained his trust and convinced him to invest money in an alleged international stock market scheme. Jagdish, believing the scheme to be legitimate, transferred funds multiple times through RTGS and NEFT, totaling over ₹1.29 crore.

Fraudster Disappears After Securing Funds
After receiving the money, Meghna, who claimed to be a woman, vanished. It remains unclear whether she was indeed female or someone else posing as her. Jagdish’s attempts to contact her failed, prompting him to file a police complaint. Authorities have escalated the matter to other investigative agencies, and the case is under investigation.

Warnings and Lessons
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of trusting unknown individuals online:

  • Dating apps are meant for friendship and conversation, not financial transactions.
  • Avoid transferring money or investing in schemes suggested by people you meet online.
  • Be skeptical of any unsolicited investment advice, even from someone you feel close to online.
  • Always verify the identity and credibility of the other party before sharing sensitive information or funds.

Experts urge users to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately. Online platforms can facilitate friendships, but financial dealings should always be kept off such networks.
