Apple is gearing up to launch a completely redesigned iPhone in 2027 to mark the 20th anniversary of the first iPhone. According to reports, the new model will feature a truly bezel-less display, with no notch, hole-punch, or Dynamic Island. Both the Face ID sensor and front camera will be embedded under the display, offering a seamless edge-to-edge viewing experience.
A Bold New Design
Apple first launched the iPhone in 2007, and in 2027, it will celebrate 20 years of innovation. To commemorate this milestone, the company plans to introduce a design that is a significant departure from current models. Similar to the iPhone X in 2017, which marked the 10th anniversary with a major redesign, this new iPhone will redefine the full-screen experience.
Reports from The Information suggest that the device may feature a curved glass body with no visible cutouts on the front. The display is expected to stretch from corner to corner, delivering a completely immersive viewing experience. Only a thin metal strip along the edges will house the buttons, maintaining a clean, minimalistic look.
Under-Display Technology
The new iPhone will integrate Face ID and the front camera beneath the display, eliminating the need for any visible notches or punch-holes. This advanced under-display technology aims to deliver a true all-screen experience, setting it apart from competitors and previous iPhone generations.
iPhone 18 Series Previews the Transition
Apple’s upcoming iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max models, expected in 2026, will also feature under-display Face ID. The front camera is rumored to be positioned under the upper-left section of the display. However, these models will continue the look of the iPhone 17 Pro series while removing the Dynamic Island, hinting at the full-screen design of the 2027 model.
Camera and Other Upgrades
The iPhone 18 Pro series will see notable camera upgrades, including at least one rear camera with a mechanical iris for variable aperture control. According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the main camera will feature 48MP resolution with adjustable aperture, allowing users to better manage depth of field, background blur, and light intake. While the small sensor size may limit the effect, this marks a significant step forward in iPhone photography capabilities.
