AYANEO has officially unveiled the design of its first-ever smartphone, and it brings an exciting twist for gaming enthusiasts. The device comes with a built-in gaming controller, turning the smartphone into a full-fledged handheld gaming console. The concept instantly reminds tech lovers of the iconic Sony Xperia Play, launched back in 2011.
According to a report by Android Authority, AYANEO has named this gaming phone “Pocket Play”, and its highlight is a slider-style design that reveals a complete gaming pad beneath the display.
Slider Phone With Built-In Gamepad
The Pocket Play features an attachable-style game controller that becomes accessible by sliding the screen upward. This exposes the integrated gamepad, equipped with modern Android hardware capabilities—making it ideal for gamers who prefer console-style controls on mobile.
Inspired by the Xperia Play
Much like the 2011 Sony Xperia Play, Pocket Play is designed as a sideways slider phone. Once opened, users are greeted by a full control deck—perfect for intense gaming sessions.
Inside the slider mechanism, users get:
- A functional D-pad
- ABXY action buttons
- Four shoulder buttons at the top
- Two “Smart Touchpads”
Touchpads on mobile phones are unusual, but they can be extremely handy for strategy games, classic PC ports, and emulators where precise mouse-like control is essential.
Design, Colors, and Build
AYANEO has launched the Pocket Play in two stunning colors—White/Silver and Black.
- The white variant gives strong PSP Go vibes, thanks to its sleek finish.
- The device carries dual flush rear cameras, designed to avoid any grip issues during gaming.
- A USB-C port sits at the bottom, while stereo speakers and active cooling vents are placed at both ends of the phone.
Instead of top-tier flagship chipsets, the Pocket Play is expected to be powered by an upper mid-range processor, ensuring a balance between performance and battery life.
A Much-Needed Device for the Future of Mobile Gaming
Mobile gaming continues to expand rapidly, but the market remains divided—between gaming-centric handheld PCs and regular smartphones. A device like Pocket Play has the potential to bridge this gap.
If AYANEO succeeds in delivering:
- Precise controller mapping
- Strong thermal performance
- Long-lasting battery life
—then Pocket Play could easily become the default choice for retro gamers, emulator fans, and cloud gaming users.
The Pocket Play is more than just another smartphone; it represents a significant push toward the future of mobile gaming—bringing comfort, control, and console-like gameplay back into a single compact device.
