Banda, Uttar Pradesh: A tragic incident in Banda has shocked the local community, where a 19-year-old intermediate student ended his life by lying in front of a train after being denied marriage to his aunt. The incident occurred just a day before his scheduled exam.
Details of the Incident
The deceased, Raja Anuragi (19), son of Rajendra Kumar Anuragi and resident of Jareli Kothi Mohalla, left his home on Tuesday evening without informing anyone. Later that night, he went to Kyotra Railway Crossing and committed suicide by positioning himself in front of an oncoming train. The train fatally injured him, splitting his body into two parts.
Passersby alerted the police, who arrived at the scene, secured the body, and began investigations. A mobile phone belonging to Raja was found in his pocket and used by the police to inform his family. His relatives rushed to the scene in distress upon receiving the news.
Circumstances Leading to the Suicide
According to family members, Raja had been in a romantic relationship with a woman in the Atrra police jurisdiction (referred to as his aunt). He had been insisting on marriage, but the family opposed the union due to familial and societal restrictions. Family sources said Raja had hoped to marry elsewhere in a few months, which reportedly caused him severe mental stress.
On the day of the incident, Raja had visited the market to buy study materials and gather information about his private intermediate exam center in Tindwari. His mother, Neetu Anuragi, said she called him at night for dinner, and he mentioned he was near a junction and would return home soon. Shortly afterward, his phone went offline.
Raja was the third among four brothers. The family had suffered a previous tragedy when his elder brother, Shyam Babu, drowned in a pond several years ago.
Official Statement
Yagya Narayan Bhargav, in-charge of Balkhandi Naka Police Chowki, confirmed that a post-mortem has been conducted. Further investigation will proceed based on the post-mortem report.
