You Will Chant Jai Shri Ram in Two–Three Days”: Who Attacked Agra Cab Driver Mohammad Rais

A disturbing video from Agra has gone viral on social media, showing a 58-year-old Muslim cab driver, Mohammad Rais, being assaulted and forced to chant a religious slogan near the Taj Mahal. The incident occurred at the parking area of the Purani Mandi Metro Station, located close to the iconic monument.

What the Viral Video Shows

In the viral clip, Rais is seen sitting inside his car when two young men approach him and allegedly try to coerce him into saying “Jai Shri Ram.” When he refuses, the youths push, hit, and intimidate him. They were also heard threatening him while recording the incident, saying:

“Tū do–tīn din mein Jai Shri Ram bolegā.”
(“You will chant Jai Shri Ram within two–three days.”)

The video sparked widespread outrage online, with users condemning the act and demanding swift police action.

Incident Took Place on 24 November

According to police sources, the assault occurred on the evening of 24 November. Rais, a resident of Radhe Wali Gali in Shahganj, had just dropped tourists from Kerala and was parking his cab when two men on a motorcycle approached and began pressuring him to chant the religious slogan.

When Rais resisted, the accused allegedly manhandled him and continued filming the incident for social media.

Cab Driver Files Complaint

Shaken by the assault, Rais approached the police and lodged an FIR. A joint investigation was immediately launched by Tajganj Police and the Metro Station Security Team.

CCTV footage confirmed that the incident took place inside the Purani Mandi Metro Station parking area. The video went viral on Tuesday, prompting authorities to intensify the search for the attackers.

Police: “Religious Provocation Will Not Be Tolerated”

Speaking on the matter, DCP City Ali Abbas said:

“CCTV footage is being examined. Religious intimidation and violence will not be tolerated under any circumstances. The accused will be arrested soon.”

He assured that strict action will be taken to maintain communal harmony and public safety in the city.
