World’s Largest Shivling on 96-Wheel ‘Rath’ Reaches Bihar: Inside the Engineering Marvel

Motihari/Gopalganj: Faith and engineering came together spectacularly as the massive Shivling for the upcoming Virat Ramayan Temple reached Gopalganj in Bihar from Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu. Standing 33 feet tall and weighing an astonishing 210 tons (2.10 lakh kg), this colossal monolith was transported on a specially designed 96-wheel heavy-duty ‘Rath’—an engineering marvel in itself.

Four Years in the Making

Architect Loknath and his team spent four years designing this extraordinary vehicle. Built to withstand the gargantuan weight, the rath is capable of safely carrying the 210-ton Shivling across thousands of kilometers without any mechanical failures. Its robust construction is a testament to precision engineering and innovative design.

Why 96 Wheels?

Transporting such an immense load required careful attention to road safety and structural integrity. Engineers used 96 wheels to distribute the ‘axle load’ evenly, preventing road subsidence or damage to bridges. By spreading the weight across so many wheels, the massive Shivling could travel safely over long distances while minimizing pressure on the roads.

The Journey Across India

The Shivling traveled from Mahabalipuram through Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh before finally reaching Bihar. It will be installed at the Virat Ramayan Temple in East Champaran, which aims to be completed by 2026.

This historic transport of the world’s largest Shivling is not just a feat of devotion, but also a landmark in civil and mechanical engineering, leaving onlookers in awe of both faith and innovation.
