Lucknow: Deepti Sharma, a key member of India’s victorious Women’s Cricket World Cup team and Player of the Tournament, visited Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow along with her entire family. Sharma, who serves as a DSP in the Uttar Pradesh Police, attended the meeting in her khaki uniform. The meeting was documented and shared on the CM’s official X handle.
During the meeting, CM Yogi praised Deepti Sharma’s achievements, highlighting the government’s commitment to initiatives like “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” and the promotion of sports in Uttar Pradesh. “UP is proud of our daughter Deepti Sharma. Her passion, hard work, and dedication have turned the World Cup dream into reality,” the CM said. Deepti’s mother, Sushila Devi, expressed that the honor from the Chief Minister further boosted her daughter’s confidence.
Earlier, Deepti Sharma was felicitated at the Police Headquarters by DGP Rajeev Krishna, where she discussed her experience in the Women’s World Cup. She said, “Hosting the World Cup in India was a thrilling experience for all of us. Despite losing three league matches initially, we never lost hope. Our determination helped us reclaim momentum, ultimately leading us to lift the World Cup trophy.”
Reflecting on the semifinals against Australia, Deepti said, “Facing a seven-time champion was challenging, but we believed in ourselves and delivered a stunning victory that took us to the finals. The team’s collective performance in the final secured India’s first World Cup title.”
Regarding her personal achievement, Deepti Sharma said, “Being named Player of the Tournament is a significant milestone in my career. I’m proud of my performance, but the team’s success was always my top priority. I will cherish these memories forever.”
