
Lalitpur, Uttar Pradesh: Anger erupted in Khitwans village of Mahrauni Police Station area, Lalitpur, as local women and villagers staged a protest against liquor shops. During the demonstration, they broke locks of alcohol stores and threw crates of liquor onto the streets, smashing bottles in the process.
According to reports, the protest took place on Tuesday along the Lalitpur-Mahrauni main road. The women had previously submitted multiple memorandums to the administration highlighting the issues caused by alcohol in the community, but no action was taken. Frustrated, they took matters into their own hands.
The protesters targeted both country-made and imported liquor shops, breaking into the stores and destroying over fifty crates of alcohol. Bottles from both domestic and foreign liquor stores were smashed on the streets, sending a strong message against alcohol consumption.
Upon receiving information about the incident, a large police force from Mahrauni Police Station and the district headquarters rushed to the scene to restore order. CO Mahrauni, Rakshpal Singh, confirmed that a case has been registered under relevant sections based on the complainant’s report. The police stated that all individuals involved in the protest have been identified, and appropriate legal action will be taken.
