Woman Seriously Injured in Bear Attack in Pabau Forest, Pauri Garhwal; Airlift to AIIMS Planned

Pauri Garhwal News: A woman was seriously injured in a bear attack while cutting grass in the forests of Pabau, Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand. Authorities are preparing to airlift her to AIIMS for advanced medical care.

On Wednesday, Jyoti Devi, wife of Jagdish Singh from Khandooli village, along with six to seven companions, had gone to the forest near Odli village to cut grass. Suddenly, a bear attacked Jyoti Devi. Her companions raised an alarm, causing the bear to retreat into the forest, but by then, she had sustained serious injuries. Villagers immediately rushed her to the Community Health Center in Pabau, where she received first aid before being referred to a higher medical facility.

Injuries and Medical Response

Dr. Pankaj Singh, Officer-in-Charge at Pabau Health Center, stated that Jyoti Devi sustained severe injuries to her face, head, and legs. For better treatment, she is being prepared for airlift to a premier medical institute.

Safety Measures and Compensation Demands

The incident has created a sense of fear in the area. Gram Pradhan Thakur Singh of Khandooli has demanded that the Forest Department provide adequate compensation to the affected family and ensure the area is made safe from bear attacks.

District Panchayat member Bharat Rawat confirmed that Jyoti Devi’s condition is serious, and she will be airlifted to AIIMS for treatment. He emphasized that providing the best possible medical care to the injured woman is a government priority.

Meanwhile, Ayesha Bisht, SDPO of the Garhwal Forest Division, Pauri, stated that forest teams have been deployed to patrol the area. Five camera traps will soon be installed in the affected region to monitor wildlife activity. The victim will be compensated according to official norms.
