Woman Defrauded of ₹1.85 Lakh in Fatehpur, Lured by Promise of Making Her Son a Model

Fatehpur: A shocking case of online fraud has emerged in Fatehpur district, Uttar Pradesh, where a woman was tricked into paying ₹1.85 lakh under the pretext of getting her son promoted as a model. The police have registered a case and launched an investigation.

The Fraud Scheme

According to reports, Soumya Chauhan, wife of Pratham Rathore from the Civil Lines area, approached the police after being scammed. On 9 December, while browsing Facebook, she came across a group called ‘Tiny Wonder’, which claimed to offer children’s modeling and promotion opportunities along with profits. Trusting the group, Soumya initially transferred ₹50,000 online to the account details provided by the fraudsters and also shared her child’s photograph for modeling purposes.

Soon, the fraudsters sent a Telegram link for completing various promotional tasks. After completing a task, ₹15,000 appeared in her account as profit, giving her a sense of legitimacy.

Promise of International Modeling and Huge Profits

The scammers then informed her that if she wanted to promote her child internationally, additional fees would be required, claiming that the deposited money would be returned with profits after completing the tasks. Believing them, Soumya transferred ₹1.50 lakh to two different bank accounts via the Telegram link. During this process, her account falsely displayed a profit of ₹5 lakh, reinforcing the deception.

Disconnection and Realization of Fraud

When Soumya expressed her wish to stop participating and requested the credited amount, she was disconnected from both Facebook and Telegram pages. It was only then that she realized she had fallen victim to a cyber fraud.

Police Action

Station House Officer Tarkeshwar Rai confirmed that a case has been registered under relevant sections related to cyber fraud, and a thorough investigation is underway.
