Haridwar, February 1, 2026: A video has gone viral showing three young men openly drinking alcohol on the banks of the Ganga in Haridwar, raising concerns about disrespect at one of India’s most sacred sites.
In the video, a young woman can be heard scolding the men for their actions and warning that she will call the police. Following her protest, the men pour the alcohol into the river and leave the site, promising not to repeat the act. The entire incident was captured on a mobile phone by a bystander and quickly circulated on social media.
The video has sparked widespread outrage among local residents and social media users. Many have condemned the behavior as an insult to religious sentiments and called for increased monitoring and stricter police action at holy sites.
Har Ki Pauri police station in-charge Sanjeev Kandari confirmed that the video has come to their attention. Authorities are currently investigating the time and location of the footage, as well as the identities of the individuals involved.
