Narmadapuram, Madhya Pradesh: A large crowd gathered in the Housing Board area of Narmadapuram district on Monday when a woman climbed a 60-foot-high water tank with her four-year-old son, visibly distressed and crying loudly. Locals quickly informed the police, who, along with the Tehsildar, rushed to the scene.
Tehsildar’s Calm Intervention
The woman remained on the tank for about two and a half hours, during which the situation drew attention from the public. Tehsildar Sarita Malviya personally spoke to the woman, assuring her, “I am the Tehsildar. Come down, all your problems will be heard, and I will help you.” Reassured by the official, the woman eventually descended safely along with her child, with the support of police personnel present from Dehat, Kotwali, and Mahila police stations.
Family Dispute Cited as Reason
Police later revealed that the woman was under stress due to family disputes at her in-laws’ residence, which prompted her drastic action. After coming down, she was taken to the police station, where her complaint will be heard and further action decided. No comments have yet been received from her in-laws regarding the incident.
The swift response of the administration and police, combined with calm negotiation, ensured the safety of both mother and child, preventing what could have been a tragic outcome.
