Woman Arrested in Delhi for Using Fake Embassy Number Plates to Evade Police

New Delhi: Delhi Police have arrested a woman who was allegedly using fake foreign embassy number plates on her car to avoid law enforcement scrutiny. The woman, a resident of Assam, claimed to have worked as a consultant for a foreign embassy for a year.

The Crime Branch’s Anti-Extortion and Kidnapping Unit apprehended the woman after receiving intelligence that she frequently visited various embassies and high-security areas in New Delhi using a car fitted with counterfeit embassy number plates. During the operation, police recovered two additional fake embassy number plates from the vehicle.

Investigations revealed that the woman purchased an Innova car from a foreign embassy in November 2024. However, the embassy had filed a complaint at Chanakyapuri police station because the vehicle was not registered in its name. To bypass police checks and access multiple embassies, she allegedly removed the original plates and installed counterfeit ones.

During questioning, she initially claimed to be a representative of a foreign embassy but was unable to specify which one. She also stated that she had previously worked as a sports guide at the University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya, and is currently providing consultancy services for foreign, especially African, students seeking admission to the same university.

Delhi Police, under the supervision of ACP Pankaj Arora and led by Inspector Dalip Kumar, SI Vijay Kumar, Ashok Kumar, and ASI Ravinder, set up a trap in B Block, Vasant Vihar. The woman was apprehended around 3:10 PM when she started her vehicle and failed to produce the car documents.

Following her arrest, she has been sent to six days of police custody as authorities continue to investigate whether she was involved in any anti-national activities ahead of the Republic Day celebrations.

DCP Sanjeev Kumar Yadav confirmed that the probe is ongoing.
