Bahraich, UP: A horrifying incident occurred in the Fakharpur block of Bahraich district on Monday morning when a wolf snatched a three-year-old child from his mother’s arms, highlighting the ongoing human-wildlife conflict in the region.
Details of the Incident
The tragic event took place in Rasulpur Bareta village, where the mother, identified as Nankai, was feeding her son Anshu, aged three, in the courtyard. Suddenly, a wolf appeared and carried the child away in its jaws. Despite running approximately 100 meters after the wolf, dense fog obstructed her view, and she lost sight of the animal.
After several hours of searching, the child’s lifeless body was recovered about one kilometer from the home in a nearby field.
Family Background
Anshu’s father, Ram Manohar, works as a laborer in Punjab, while Nankai lives with her two children. The family is devastated by the loss, and authorities immediately informed the father of the tragedy.
Police and Forest Department Response
Local police and the Forest Department were promptly alerted. Ranger Omkar Yadav led the search operation with forest personnel and villagers, ultimately locating the child’s body.
Risk Factors and Community Concerns
Residents pointed out that dense sugarcane fields in the area serve as a hiding spot for wolves. Village council representative Riaz urged the administration to harvest the sugarcane crop promptly in vulnerable areas to prevent future attacks.
Rising Wolf Attacks in 2025
This year alone, 12 people have died and 34 others injured due to wolf attacks in the region. Meanwhile, forest authorities report having killed six wolves in response. The recent tragedy has caused widespread fear among villagers, emphasizing the urgent need for better wildlife management and community safety measures.
