Patna, Bihar: After the Bihar Assembly elections resulted in a heavy defeat for his party, political strategist and Jan Suraj Party founder Prashant Kishor addressed the media on Tuesday, making his first public comments since the elections. He stated clearly that he has no plans to leave Bihar and emphasized that the time for advice is over—now is the time for struggle.
Prashant Kishor Blames ₹10,000 Payouts
Prashant Kishor attributed the electoral success of CM Nitish Kumar’s JD(U), winning over 25 seats, to the ₹10,000 payments distributed under the Chief Minister’s Women Employment Scheme. “Had Nitish not given ₹10,000 to over 60,000 beneficiaries in each constituency, JD(U) wouldn’t have won even 25 seats,” PK said. He further highlighted that the NDA government announced schemes worth ₹40,000 crore and distributed significant funds right before the elections, boosting their performance.
Failure to Read Bihar’s Pulse
Kishor admitted, “I failed to understand Bihar. We tried to explain our issues to the people honestly, but the results were not in our favor. I take full responsibility. While my party did not win any MLAs, we will continue our struggle among the people. There is a saying in English: you never lose until you quit the game. My party neither divided society nor purchased votes.”
Fast on 20 November
As a form of atonement for not fulfilling the promises he had conveyed to the public, Prashant Kishor announced that he will observe a one-day silent collective fast at Bhitiharwa Ashram on 20 November. Political circles are abuzz with discussions, as Kishor had earlier indicated he would retire from politics if JD(U) won more than 25 seats. However, PK has reignited political debates by claiming that the ₹10,000 payouts influenced the election results.
