Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan: A newlywed relationship turned deadly within just three months when a husband was brutally murdered, allegedly at the hands of his wife and her accomplices. The shocking crime has been uncovered by the Rajasthan police, exposing a meticulously planned plot that was initially passed off as a hit-and-run accident.
Incident Initially Reported as Hit-and-Run
On 31 January, the brother of the victim, Ashish Kumar, informed police that Ashish had died the previous night after being struck by an unknown vehicle while walking with his wife, Anju. However, inconsistencies at the crime scene raised immediate suspicions.
Police Investigation Reveals Multiple Discrepancies
Superintendent of Police Amrita Duhan stated that there were no clear signs of any vehicle collision at the site. Furthermore, Anju’s statements repeatedly changed during questioning—ranging from fainting to claims of robbery. She also alleged that unidentified persons had stolen her jewelry after the accident, a claim that did not match the evidence.
Postmortem Confirms Murder
The postmortem revealed multiple injuries on Ashish’s body, including clear signs of strangulation, prompting the police to reclassify the case as homicide.
Motive: Wife’s Affair and Marital Dissatisfaction
Ashish and Anju had married just three months prior. Investigators found that Anju was unhappy in the marriage and had returned to her parental home shortly after the wedding. There, she reconnected with an old acquaintance, Sanjay alias Sanju, and hatched a plan to eliminate her husband.
Execution of the Murder
Anju returned to her marital home, aware of Ashish’s routine evening walks. On the night of 30 January, she lured Ashish to a deserted path. Sanjay, along with his accomplices Rohit and Badal, lay in wait. Once Ashish was distracted by conversation, the trio attacked him with sticks, rendering him unconscious before strangling him to death.
Attempt to Stage the Crime
According to police, Anju handed over Ashish’s mobile phone and her own earrings to the assailants to create the impression of a robbery. She then informed her in-laws, falsely claiming that Ashish had died in a road accident.
Four Arrested; Investigation Ongoing
Rajasthan Police have arrested four individuals, including Anju and her lover Sanjay. Interrogation of the accused is ongoing, and further investigations are underway to uncover all aspects of the premeditated murder.
“Evidence clearly indicated that the murder was staged as a road accident, and the investigation has exposed the chilling conspiracy behind the crime,” said SP Amrita Duhan.
