Betul, Madhya Pradesh
In a heartbreaking incident from Betul district, two municipal council employees—Rajni Dundele (48) and Mithun (29)—ended their lives by jumping into a well after facing continuous humiliation and accusations about their character. The tragic event has sent shockwaves through the region, raising serious questions about workplace harassment and social insensitivity.
A Relationship Misunderstood, Lives Destroyed
Rajni, a widow working as a clerk in the municipal council, considered Mithun—an employee in the water supply department—like her own son. Both worked in the same office, but their pure, respectful bond was repeatedly tainted by colleagues who accused them of having an affair.
According to the suicide note recovered from Rajni’s house, she was deeply distressed by the constant taunts, gossip, and character assassination she faced at her workplace. She wrote that people questioned her integrity and looked at her relationship with Mithun through a “dirty and disrespectful” lens. The emotional wounds inflicted by these accusations became unbearable.
4–5 Names Mentioned in Suicide Note
The suicide note mentions 4 to 5 individuals, holding them responsible for spreading rumors and harassing the duo. The police have initiated a detailed investigation based on these names.
Betul Police stated that the false allegations and toxic work environment pushed both individuals into severe mental stress, ultimately leading to this tragic decision.
How the Incident Unfolded
On Tuesday evening, Rajni and Mithun left their homes but didn’t return. By tracing Mithun’s mobile location, the police reached Bayawadi village, where they found their footwear, a mobile phone, and a motorcycle near a farm well. SDRF was called, and on Wednesday morning, both bodies were recovered.
Rajni had left her phone at home, while Mithun carried his, which helped the police track their last location.
Family Devastated, Son’s Wedding Was Near
Rajni leaves behind her son and two daughters. Her son’s wedding was scheduled soon, turning an atmosphere of celebration into unbearable grief. The entire village is in shock, mourning the loss of two lives that could not withstand societal judgement.
Police Investigation Underway
SDOP Sunil Lata confirmed that the individuals named in the suicide note will be investigated thoroughly. Police are also examining the call detail records (CDRs) to uncover the sequence of events and verify any communication that might reveal further details.
