Saharanpur: The arrest of Dr. Adil Ahmad Rather, a doctor at Famous Medicare Hospital in Saharanpur, has sent shockwaves across western Uttar Pradesh. Known for his calm demeanor and professional background, Dr. Adil’s alleged links to a terror network have left colleagues and hospital staff stunned.
From Anantnag to Saharanpur
Originally from Anantnag, Jammu & Kashmir, Adil had been working at Famous Medicare Hospital on Ambala Road in Saharanpur. He was arrested by the ATS on 7 November. Following his arrest, explosives and weapons were recovered from Faridabad, raising suspicions that he may have been setting up a terror module in western Uttar Pradesh.
Marriage and Mother’s Illness: Clues for Investigation
Authorities have obtained a copy of Dr. Adil’s wedding card, revealing that he married Dr. Ruqaiya on 4 October 2025. Several doctors from Saharanpur, including his colleague Dr. Babar, attended the ceremony. Babar had helped Adil find a rental home in Saharanpur. Shortly before his arrest, Adil told friends he was leaving for his village because his mother was unwell. Investigators are now questioning whether this was a ruse to avoid capture.
Saharanpur: A Strategic Choice
Saharanpur is considered a highly sensitive district, hosting an Air Force station, airport, remount depot, and key educational institutions like Darul Uloom. Investigators suspect that Adil’s decision to leave his government medical college in Anantnag and relocate here may have been part of a larger conspiracy.
Colleagues Speak Out
Doctors recently returning from leave confirmed they had no suspicion of his alleged affiliations. Dr. Babar said, “We attended his wedding, but nobody had any inkling of his connections. Our relationship was purely professional.” Administrative in-charge Dr. Aslam Zaidi resumed duty but declined media comments.
No Prior Suspicion
Hospital staff noted that while Adil frequently spoke in Kashmiri, his behavior appeared normal, and nobody doubted his intentions. Investigators are now scrutinizing his phone records, contacts, and financial transactions to determine whether he was operating as a lone actor disguised as a doctor or as part of a larger network.
