Jamshedpur:
A sensational breakthrough has emerged in the kidnapping case of Kairav Gandhi, son of prominent Jamshedpur-based industrialist Devang Gandhi, exposing the operations of the notorious Bihar-based “Singh Saheb Gang”, which has been active across multiple districts of the state.
Jharkhand Police have arrested seven accused, including the alleged gang leader, following a meticulously planned inter-state operation. The gang is believed to be operating mainly in Gaya, Nalanda, and Aurangabad districts of Bihar.
Abduction Executed with Police Disguise
The 24-year-old industrialist’s son was kidnapped on January 13 while travelling from his residence to the bank and company office. Investigations revealed that the gang carried out the crime with military-style precision.
The kidnappers used a Scorpio SUV fitted with fake number plates and police stickers, posing as law enforcement personnel to avoid suspicion. Kairav Gandhi was intercepted mid-route and forcibly taken away.
Extensive Surveillance Before Crime
Police officials confirmed that the gang had conducted detailed reconnaissance of the victim’s daily routine for nearly a week before executing the abduction.
To evade detection, the accused relied on VOIP technology and Indonesian virtual numbers, demanding a ransom of ₹10 crore from the victim’s family — a move that significantly complicated tracking efforts.
High-Tech Tracking Leads to Breakthrough
Jharkhand Police, with assistance from advanced technical agencies based in Delhi and Punjab, managed to trace crucial digital footprints left by the kidnappers.
On the night of January 26–27, intelligence inputs revealed that the accused were transporting Kairav Gandhi from Bihar towards Jharkhand.
A massive police barricade was set up near the Chauparan–Barhi border. Sensing the tightening noose, the kidnappers pushed the victim out of the vehicle and attempted to flee.
Dramatic Rescue at State Border
Police teams swiftly rescued Kairav Gandhi safely and arrested three criminals on the spot. Based on their interrogation, simultaneous raids were conducted in Gaya, Nalanda, and Aurangabad, leading to the arrest of the gang’s kingpin Upendra Singh, along with associates Arjun Singh and Guddu Singh.
During the raids, police recovered:
- Two Scorpio vehicles
- Firearms and live cartridges
- Communication devices used for ransom calls
Victim Safe, Health Stable
After his rescue, Kairav Gandhi underwent a medical examination and was declared physically stable. Officials confirmed that he is receiving psychological support following the traumatic incident.
A Well-Organised Criminal Network
According to police sources, the “Singh Saheb Gang” functioned with professional coordination, technological expertise, and inter-state mobility — factors that had allowed it to evade law enforcement in earlier cases.
Senior officials stated that further investigation is underway to identify the gang’s past involvement in similar abductions and its possible links with other criminal networks.
Police Laud Inter-State Coordination
The successful rescue has been widely praised as a result of seamless coordination between Jharkhand Police and multiple technical agencies, marking one of the most significant kidnapping case crackdowns in recent times.
The arrested accused have been produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody, while authorities continue to probe the gang’s financial trails and digital infrastructure.
