Jamshedpur: Jharkhand police have cracked the sensational kidnapping of 24-year-old Kairav Gandhi, son of Jamshedpur industrialist Devang Gandhi, arresting seven accused, including the leader of Bihar’s notorious ‘Singh Sahab’ gang. Kairav was abducted by impersonating police officers in a meticulously planned operation but was rescued safely near the Jharkhand-Bihar border with the aid of technical surveillance.
The Gang Behind the Abduction
Investigations revealed that the gang, active in Bihar’s Gaya, Nalanda, and Aurangabad districts, is led by Upendra Singh, Arjun Singh, and Guddu Singh. On January 13, Kairav Gandhi, on his way from home to the bank and company, was intercepted and abducted. The kidnappers, using a Scorpio vehicle equipped with fake police stickers, posed as law enforcement officers. They then demanded a ransom of ₹10 crore through Indonesian virtual numbers.
Detailed Reconnaissance and Professional Execution
The gang had conducted extensive surveillance on Kairav Gandhi a week prior to the abduction. On the day of the crime, they used fake license plates and police markings to avoid suspicion. As Kairav drove his Creta towards Bishtupur, he was stopped and forcibly taken. The gang relied on VOIP technology and foreign numbers to demand ransom, creating a major challenge for law enforcement.
Police Foil the Gang at the Border
On the night of January 26–27, police received intelligence that the kidnappers were moving Kairav from Bihar to Jharkhand. A strategic blockade at the Chauparan-Barhi border forced the gang to panic, and they abandoned Kairav on the roadside while fleeing. Police captured three assailants on the spot and, based on their leads, conducted raids in Gaya, Nalanda, and Aurangabad, arresting all seven gang members, including leader Upendra Singh. Weapons, ammunition, and two Scorpio vehicles were recovered from the gang.
Safe Rescue with Technical Support
Kairav Gandhi was immediately taken for a medical check-up, which confirmed he was in stable condition. Jamshedpur police coordinated with technical agencies from Delhi and Punjab to track and apprehend the gang. According to authorities, the gang executed the kidnapping with exceptional professionalism, highlighting the sophistication of organized crime in the region.
