Patna/Delhi: The winter session of the Delhi Assembly began on Monday with a heated debate on pollution, as AAP MLA Sanjeev Jha sharply criticized the government led by Rekha Gupta. Representing Burari constituency, Jha highlighted how Delhi’s rising pollution over the past three months has severely affected residents, forcing some families to leave the city and sending children and elderly patients to hospitals. He also alleged manipulation of pollution data, misleading the public about the real health risks.
Bihar Connection
Though a prominent voice in Delhi politics, Sanjeev Jha has deep roots in Bihar. He was born on 1 August 1979 in Sundarpur Bhitthi village, Madhubani district, to the late Sushil Jha and Gayatri Devi, and was the fourth of six children. After completing his early schooling at MYN High School, Shambhuar, Madhubani, he earned a BA (Honors) from RK College, Madhubani in 2001.
Political Journey
Jha entered politics in 2012, playing a key role in the formation of the Chhatra Yuva Sangharsh Samiti (CYSS). Following the formation of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), he contested the 2013 Delhi Assembly elections from Burari, defeating BJP candidate Shri Krishna Tyagi by 10,351 votes to become a first-time MLA.
Rising Influence in AAP
In the 2015 Delhi Assembly elections, Jha retained Burari with a record margin, defeating BJP’s Gopal Jha by over 67,950 votes, one of the largest winning margins in Delhi. Recognizing his organizational skills, the AAP appointed him as party spokesperson and in-charge for Bihar and Jharkhand, expanding his political influence beyond the national capital.
Today, Sanjeev Jha is seen as one of AAP’s most vocal and effective leaders in Delhi, known for his fearless approach to tackling civic issues like pollution, while maintaining strong connections to his roots in Bihar.
