The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has registered its first major victory in the Maharashtra local body elections even before a single vote was cast. In a significant political development from Jalgaon district, Sadhana Mahajan has been elected the unopposed Mayor of Jamner.

The withdrawal of nomination papers concluded with a dramatic twist when all seven remaining candidates, except Sadhana Mahajan, pulled out of the race. With no challengers left in the fray, the election officer declared her elected without contest.

Unopposed Win for Sadhana Mahajan

A total of nine nominations were filed for the mayoral post. After scrutiny, eight nominations—including that of Sadhana Mahajan, wife of Maharashtra Water Resources Minister Girish Mahajan—were found valid. However, on the final day of withdrawal, all other candidates stepped back, clearing the path for her unchallenged victory.

This marks yet another milestone for Sadhana, who had previously served as Jamner’s Mayor in 2018 when the BJP controlled all municipal seats in the region.

BJP Celebrates the First Victory of the Poll Season

Party cadres erupted in celebrations as soon as the unopposed victory was confirmed. Jamner has long been recognized as the stronghold of Girish Mahajan—one of the closest confidants of former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Within political circles, Mahajan is often referred to as Fadnavis’ “crisis manager” and “sharpest strategist.”

A Political Legacy Rooted in Jamner

Girish Mahajan, 65, has been elected seven consecutive times from the Jamner Assembly constituency since 1995. The family’s political influence dates back to 1990, when Mahajan’s father, Dattatray Mahajan, won the seat on a Congress ticket.

Today, Sadhana Mahajan stands as a significant political figure in her own right—her unopposed election reflecting not only personal acceptance but also the deep political hold of the Mahajan family over the region.

Her win gives the BJP a symbolic early lead in the Maharashtra local body elections—setting the tone for the battles ahead.
