Begusarai/Mokama: Bihar Police on Thursday nabbed Mokama’s notorious criminal Neeraj Singh alias Neeraj Boss after conducting what officials are calling a ‘half encounter’ — an operation in which police fired multiple rounds but shot the gangster only in the leg, ensuring his capture alive. Three of his associates were also arrested, and a cache of weapons was recovered from the gang.
Police Corner Neeraj Boss in Diara Region
According to Begusarai SP Manish Kumar, police received specific intelligence inputs about the movement of the Neeraj Boss gang in the Teghra diara region. A heavy police team launched a raid, prompting Neeraj and his men to open fire.
The police retaliated swiftly. While Neeraj sustained a gunshot injury to his leg, three of his aides surrendered out of fear.
The police recovered:
- Two rifles
- One pistol
- One country-made firearm
- 15 live cartridges
Neeraj, a resident of Brahmpur village under Mokama police station, had been evading arrest for over 25 years, making him one of the most feared names in the riverine belt of Bihar.
Who Is Neeraj Boss?
The diara region of Mokama is known both for producing officers and criminals. Neeraj Singh was born into an ordinary family in Brahmpur but took to crime early. Around the year 2000, he began with petty thefts and robberies. His appetite for money soon grew, pushing him deeper into organized crime.
His gang members eventually gave him the name ‘Neeraj Boss’, symbolizing his growing dominance.
By 2010, multiple cases were registered against him. But the incident that sealed his notoriety came in 2015.
The Crime That Made Him Infamous
In 2015, Neeraj masterminded the kidnapping of a businessman from a village near Mokama. The victim was released only after the gang extorted a large ransom. This single incident turned Neeraj Boss into a high-profile target for law enforcement agencies.
He later expanded into illegal arms trafficking and frequently engaged in gunfights with rival gangs to assert control over the diara region.
How He Always Managed to Escape
Police officers say Neeraj was familiar with every nook and corner of the riverine terrain. Whenever raids were conducted, he would flee through dense riverbed vegetation or escape using the river routes — making arrests nearly impossible.
SP Manish Kumar noted that Neeraj’s name evoked terror:
“People trembled at the very mention of Neeraj Boss.”
This time, however, the police’s strategic cordon left no escape route. After years of pursuit, officers finally managed to capture him alive — giving the public a first clear look at the dreaded gangster in custody.
