Bihar has once again made its mark on the international stage. Moni Chaudhary, a native of Ara in Bhojpur district, created history on 1 January 2026 by successfully scaling Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s tallest peak, and hoisting the Indian tricolor at its summit. Standing at 5,895 meters (19,341 feet) above sea level, Kilimanjaro’s Uhuru Peak is considered one of the world’s most challenging climbs.

A Remarkable Journey:
Moni completed the arduous ascent in seven days, navigating dense forests, rocky moorlands, alpine deserts, and extreme sub-zero temperatures. Her triumph is a testament to her physical endurance, mental resilience, and months of disciplined preparation, marking a historic start to the New Year.

About Moni Chaudhary:
Moni hails from Katira Mohalla, Ara, and works professionally as a Manager at Bihar Gramin Bank. The youngest daughter of the late Subodh Chaudhary, and originally from Karwan village, she has long harbored a passion for mountaineering alongside her busy banking career. She has previously scaled several challenging peaks, balancing professional responsibilities with her adventurous pursuits.

Her recent feat on Kilimanjaro has not only brought pride to Ara and Bhojpur district but has also made her an inspiring role model for Bihar’s youth, demonstrating that dedication, courage, and discipline can achieve international recognition.
