Who Is IPS Isha Singh? Officer Who Clashed with TVK Leader at Actor Vijay’s Rally Transferred to Delhi

IPS officer Isha Singh, who drew nationwide attention after a dramatic face-off with a TVK leader during actor Vijay’s political rally in Puducherry last month, has now been transferred to Delhi. The transfer has once again brought the young, no-nonsense officer into the public spotlight.

The incident occurred on December 9, when a rally organised by Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) was held at Uppalam Port Ground in Puducherry. The venue had permission for a gathering of around 5,000 people, but as the crowd swelled beyond the approved limit, Isha Singh—then serving as a senior police officer on duty—intervened decisively. She was seen stopping TVK General Secretary Bussy Anand mid-speech and taking away the microphone to prevent further crowd mobilisation.

Her firm action was widely praised on social media, earning her titles such as “Lady Singham” and “Real Lady Singham”, symbolising fearless and impartial policing.

A Legacy of Integrity

Born in 1998 in Mumbai, Isha Singh comes from a distinguished family deeply rooted in public service and law. She is the daughter of Abha Singh, one of India’s most prominent lawyers, known for handling high-profile public interest cases, including the Salman Khan hit-and-run case. Her father, Yogesh Pratap Singh (Y.P. Singh), a 1985-batch IPS officer, resigned from service after repeatedly being given punitive postings for exposing corruption. Isha’s maternal grandfather was also a police officer.

From Law to Law Enforcement

Before joining the Indian Police Service, Isha Singh pursued law at the National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru. Despite opportunities in the corporate sector, she chose to work in human rights and public interest litigation. In 2021, she played a key role in securing ₹10 lakh compensation for the widows of three manual scavengers who died while cleaning a septic tank in Mumbai.

The same year, she cleared the UPSC Civil Services Examination and joined the IPS (2021 batch) under the AGMUT cadre.

A Reputation for Tough Policing

At just 30 years of age, Isha Singh has already built a reputation for taking firm, people-centric decisions. Her sharp administrative skills and uncompromising stance on law and order have made her one of the most talked-about young IPS officers in the country.

She was also felicitated in October 2023, when Union Home Minister Amit Shah presented her with the Law and Order Manipur Cup, recognising her professional excellence.

With her transfer to Delhi, many see this as the next significant chapter in the career of an officer who represents a new generation of policing—fearless, principled, and firmly committed to the rule of law.
