Who is IPS Anukriti Sharma? The Dynamic Officer Appointed as ACP in Noida

Noida: IPS officer Anukriti Sharma has been appointed as the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in the Gautam Buddh Nagar Commissionerate, Noida. Known for her proactive approach and action-oriented policing, she has previously made headlines for her initiatives in Sambhal.

Anukriti Sharma, a 2020 batch IPS officer, has earned the reputation of being a “revelatory officer” due to her transparent and hands-on approach. From Lucknow to Bulandshahr and later in Sambhal, she has consistently demonstrated her commitment to efficient law enforcement. As part of a recent reshuffle, the Uttar Pradesh government transferred 24 IPS officers, including Sharma, signaling expectations of innovative policing in Noida.

Early Life and Education
Anukriti Sharma was born on 14 October 1987 in Shyamnagar, Jaipur, Rajasthan, to Deendayal Sharma, an Assistant Director in the Planning Commission, and Madhu Sharma. Growing up in Vivek Vihar, she initially aspired to be a dancer and actively participated in school cultural events. She later aimed for admission to IIT but ultimately pursued an integrated course at IISER. After completing her M.Tech, she secured a scholarship to pursue a PhD at a U.S. university, earning $2,700 per month.

During her time at IISER, she met Vaibhav Mishra, and both moved to the U.S. for higher studies. Despite family pressures, they married in 2013 after returning to India. Sharma later worked with NASA before returning to India, deeply motivated by social issues such as the Nirbhaya case and child marriage incidents in Kolkata, which inspired her to prepare for the UPSC examination. She successfully joined the IPS in 2020, seven years after her marriage.

Professional Journey and Achievements
Sharma’s policing career has been marked by a blend of strict law enforcement and community engagement. After her training in Lucknow, she was posted as ASP in Bulandshahr, where she emphasized on-the-spot action. For instance, during a village inspection, she noticed a household in darkness and promptly arranged for electricity connection, earning appreciation for her humane approach.

In January 2024, Sharma was transferred to Sambhal as ASP. There, she led several high-profile operations, including the exposure of a ₹100 crore fraud spanning 12 states, in which criminals exploited insurance claims on seriously ill individuals. The crackdown led to over 70 arrests.

Sharma also pioneered community policing initiatives such as the “Police My Friend” campaign. Under her leadership, Sambhal became the first district in the state to establish mother-and-child care rooms in all 15 police stations. She mobilized women officers by providing scooters through CSR support and organized community events like Diwali celebrations for underprivileged women. In recognition of her contributions, she was awarded the DG Commendation Silver Medal on 15 August 2025.

With her appointment as ACP in Noida, expectations are high that Anukriti Sharma will bring innovation, transparency, and community-focused policing to one of Uttar Pradesh’s most dynamic urban centers.
