Ahmedabad/Surat: The buzz around Bollywood’s recent blockbuster Dhurandhar has brought renewed attention to the real-life criminal Rahman Dakait. The Crime Branch of Surat City Police, under the leadership of dynamic officer DCP Bhavesh Rojia, has successfully arrested the notorious gangster, sending shockwaves through the criminal world.
The arrested criminal, Abid Ali, also known as Raju Irani and Rahman Dakait, was the feared head of the “Irani Dera” gang in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. Wanted by police in more than six states, including Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal, he had eluded law enforcement for years. Last month, he escaped a police raid in Bhopal by allegedly using stones to flee. He was later traced to his brother-in-law’s house in Surat, where the Crime Branch executed a flawless arrest without a single shot being fired.
Criminal Methods and Notoriety
Rahman Dakait’s gang was known for using disguises as astrologers or priests to enter homes under the pretense of religious rituals and steal valuables. They also set up fake police barricades to rob travelers on highways and deserted roads. Police say Abid Ali deliberately adopted the name “Rahman Dakait” to instill fear among locals and maintain dominance while on the run. Frequent identity changes and fake documents helped him evade capture for years.
Who is Bhavesh Rojia?
Bhavesh Rojia joined Gujarat Police in 2004 as a PSI (Police Sub-Inspector) and steadily rose through the ranks to become Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP). He was later appointed ACP of Surat City and subsequently promoted to DCP by the Gujarat government. Known for his dedication and efficiency, Rojia has solved high-profile cases, including the Gandhinagar serial killer case, major drug busts, and detentions of Pakistani, Iranian, and Afghan nationals involved in criminal networks. His leadership in the Rahman Dakait operation has once again highlighted him as one of Gujarat’s most committed police officers.
