Who Is Bagpat DM Asmita Lal? Ordered Salary Freeze of 12 Officers, Issued Strict Warning

Bagpat, Uttar Pradesh: District Magistrate Asmita Lal has taken strong action against administrative negligence in Bagpat. Expressing serious displeasure over rising filth in rural and urban areas, she has ordered the salary freeze of 12 officials, including the Chief Development Officer (CDO) and Executive Officers of several civic bodies.

Strong Action Over Negligence

Despite heavy expenditure on sanitation campaigns across villages and towns, garbage piles continued to plague the district. Officials allegedly failed to address complaints and did not take responsibility for improving cleanliness. Following repeated lapses, DM Asmita Lal initiated strict proceedings.

“The officers must improve their work attitude immediately, otherwise they should be ready for further action,” warned the District Magistrate. She added that if negligence continues, a formal report will be sent to the state government.

What Triggered the Action?

A large budget was recently allocated for cleaning operations in the district. However, even after the campaign, neither villages nor municipalities showed satisfactory improvement. Public complaints also went unattended. Observing this persistent carelessness, the DM decided to hold officials accountable.

CDO Among Those Punished

The officials whose salaries have been withheld include:

• CDO Neeraj Srivastava
• EO K.K. Bhadana (Bagpat Municipal Body)
• Backward Class Welfare Officer Shyam Sundar
• Deputy Commissioner, Industries – Archana Tiwari
• Executive Engineer, Irrigation – Rajneesh Kumar
• Assistant Engineer, Irrigation – Salman
• Anil Nimesh and several Gram Panchayat Secretaries

Clear Warning to All Officials

The DM emphasised that this is only the first step. If officers fail to correct their approach, harsher action will follow.

“This is just the salary freeze. If the attitude does not change, we will escalate the matter to the government,” she said.

Who Is DM Asmita Lal?

Asmita Lal is a 2015-batch IAS officer and currently the 31st District Magistrate of Bagpat. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Mumbai University and a Postgraduate degree in Public Policy and Management from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU).
