Rajsamand: Rajasthan Police have arrested Subodh Singh alias ‘Babua’, the alleged mastermind behind a series of sensational gold robbery cases across India, involving the loot of over 400 kilograms of gold over the last decade. The arrest has been made by Kankroli Police in Rajsamand district, who brought him from Odisha on a production warrant in connection with a high-profile robbery case.
Police sources revealed that Babua has been wanted in multiple cases registered in six states, where he and his gang targeted jewellers and financial establishments, executing well-planned heists in major cities including Jaipur, Pune, Nagpur, and Barrackpore.
A Criminal Journey Spanning Nearly Three Decades
Subodh Singh, a resident of Chistipur village in Nalanda district of Bihar, is reportedly a 12th pass and began his criminal activities in 1996, initially associating with small-time criminal networks. Interestingly, he also worked as a police informer until 1999, before turning into a full-fledged offender.
During his time in jail, he allegedly strengthened his criminal network, and after being released on bail, he shifted focus to bigger targets such as prominent jewellers and banks.
Modus Operandi: Detailed Planning and Large-Scale Loot
According to investigators, Subodh Singh was known for his meticulous planning. For every robbery, he assigned specific roles to gang members and ensured smooth execution. Each incident reportedly resulted in the theft of 15 to 30 kilograms of gold.
The stolen gold was allegedly transported to Nepal and West Bengal, where it was melted and sold in the illegal market, making it difficult for authorities to trace.
Kankroli Gold Robbery Case Linked to Babua
The breakthrough came during investigation into a robbery that took place on August 23, 2023, when four bike-borne criminals looted nearly three kilograms of gold and ₹18 lakh in cash from Roopam Gold Jewellers in Kankroli.
Following sustained investigation and surveillance, police arrested Subodh Singh along with two other accused in the case.
“We conducted continuous investigation and detailed planning before finally arresting Subodh Singh. Efforts are underway to track down other members of his gang,” said CI Saroj Bairwa, Station House Officer, Kankroli Police Station.
Search On for Remaining Gang Members
Police believe that the arrest of Subodh Singh could lead to major revelations about the organized gold-looting network operating across multiple states. Authorities are now focusing on identifying and apprehending other gang members involved in these robberies.
As per police records, the total quantity of gold looted in cases linked to Subodh Singh and his gang is estimated to be around 400 kilograms, making it one of the biggest gold robbery networks uncovered in recent years.
