Who Are Narayan, Bahadur and Vinod Koda? Notorious Maoists Surrender in Bihar, Each Receives ₹2.5 Lakh Incentive

Patna / Munger: In a major breakthrough in Bihar’s fight against Left-Wing Extremism, three notorious and reward-carrying Maoists—Narayan Koda, Bahadur Koda and Vinod Koda—surrendered before the Bihar Police on Sunday in Munger district. The surrender took place during a formal ceremony held at a college ground in Haveli Kharagpur, in the presence of Bihar Director General of Police (DGP) Vinay Kumar.

Two of the surrendered Maoists were carrying a government reward of ₹3 lakh each, and all three had been absconding for years with multiple criminal cases registered against them across several districts. Security agencies had been tracking their movements for a long time.

Profiles of the Surrendered Maoists

Narayan Koda:
Narayan Koda was a Zonal Commander of the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA), the armed wing of the banned CPI (Maoist). He was among the most wanted Maoists in the region, with nearly two dozen cases registered against him in Munger, Lakhisarai and Jamui districts. The Bihar government had announced a ₹3 lakh reward for his arrest.

Bahadur Koda:
Bahadur Koda was an active Sub-Zonal Commander of the PLGA and carried an identical ₹3 lakh bounty on his head. Like Narayan, he too was involved in around two dozen serious criminal cases, including armed attacks and Naxal operations across forested belts of the state.

Vinod Koda:
Vinod Koda was a member of an armed Maoist squad. Though comparatively lower in rank, he was involved in militant activities and had three criminal cases registered in Lakhisarai district.

Large Cache of Arms and Ammunition Recovered

According to an official statement issued by the Bihar Police, the surrendered Maoists handed over a significant quantity of arms and ammunition, including:

  • 2 INSAS rifles (5.56 mm)
  • 4 SLR rifles (7.62 mm)
  • 150 rounds of 5.56 mm live ammunition
  • 353 rounds of 7.62 mm live ammunition
  • Bombs, detonators and other Maoist equipment

The recovery is being seen as a major success for security forces operating in the Maoist-affected regions of Bihar.

₹2.5 Lakh Incentive Under Surrender and Rehabilitation Policy

Under the Bihar government’s Surrender-cum-Rehabilitation Policy, each of the surrendered Maoists has been granted an immediate ₹2.5 lakh incentive to help them reintegrate into mainstream society. In addition, the families of the two reward-carrying Maoists will receive the ₹3 lakh bounty amount declared earlier.

The rehabilitation package also includes:

  • ₹10,000 per month for 36 months (total ₹3.6 lakh) for skill development and employment-oriented training
  • ₹1.11 lakh additional compensation for the weapons surrendered
  • Benefits under housing schemes, ration distribution, Ayushman Bharat health insurance, education support, and other government welfare programs

A Step Towards Peace

Senior police officials said the surrender reflects growing trust in the state’s rehabilitation policy and weakening of Maoist influence in the region. The Bihar Police reiterated that it remains committed to providing opportunities for those willing to abandon violence and return to a peaceful life.

The surrender of Narayan, Bahadur and Vinod Koda is being hailed as a significant milestone in Bihar’s ongoing efforts to curb Naxalism and restore long-term peace in affected districts.
