
Ranchi, Jharkhand: A stunning revelation by the Ranchi police has brought to light a shocking twist in organized crime. After gangster Rahul Singh was jailed, his girlfriend’s mother, Champa Devi, reportedly took over the reins of his gang. She allegedly manages everything from supplying weapons to tracking and collecting extortion money. Arrested gang members confessed that all collected extortion funds are handed over to Champa Devi.
Champa Devi Running the Show
Following Rahul Singh’s imprisonment, Champa Devi assumed control of the gang in Ranchi. She not only oversees operations but also ensures weapons reach gang members involved in criminal activities. The gang reportedly includes several family members of Rahul Singh. Police investigations revealed that Champa Devi, residing near ISM Chowk, Pundag, has been the central figure in collecting extortion payments.
Confessions from Gang Members ‘Katappa’ and RDX
During questioning, arrested gang members Ashwini alias Katappa, Pankaj Kumar alias Sonu Sharma, and Riyash Singh alias RDX revealed that in August 2025, under Rahul Singh’s instructions, they collected ₹2.85 lakh from a businessman near Daladali Chowk. The entire amount was handed over to Champa Devi. She is also reported to fund gang members to execute crimes and provide them with weapons.
Police Crackdown and Seizures
The Jagannathpur police in Ranchi apprehended three active gang members near the Birsa Munda Airport boundary wall. Police seized one pistol, two magazines, 15 bullets, and four mobile phones from them. The arrested included Pankaj Kumar (Sonu Sharma) of Sector 4, Dhurwa; Riyash Singh (RDX) of DT-1535; and Ashwini Parwata (Katappa/Johnny) from Saraia Tola Talab, Patratū, Ramgarh district. Interrogation revealed that all three were awaiting instructions from gang leader Rahul Singh.
Gangster Rahul Singh’s International Connections
Investigations indicate that Rahul Singh’s gang has connections with criminals in Bangladesh and Nepal. Weapons imported from these countries are distributed among gang members in Ranchi. Ashwini, a native of Patratū, Ramgarh, has a history of working with several gangs before joining Rahul Singh’s group. Police are continuing investigations based on intelligence gathered from arrested members.
FIR Registered Against 11 Gang Members
City SP Paras Rana stated that an FIR has been filed against Rahul Singh, Pankaj Kumar, Ashwini (Katappa), Riyash Singh (RDX), Aman Thakur, Jhunku Yadav, Vishal Munda, Karan Uraon, Deepak Munda, Prem Pandey, Santu Singh, Ganesh, Abhijeet Parwata, and Champa Devi at Jagannathpur police station. During interrogation, the accused admitted that all gang members act on Rahul Singh’s orders, carrying out shootings and collecting extortion payments.
